This role focuses on <b>non-litigated liability claims</b> from first notice of loss through resolution and requires independent judgment, strong analytical skills, and confident negotiation.</p><div></div><p><b>What You’ll Do</b></p><ul><li><p>Manage an assigned inventory of Homeowners Liability claims, evaluating <b>negligence, comparative fault, and compensability</b> based on facts, investigation, and applicable state law.</p></li><li><p>Conduct and direct thorough <span style="overflow-wrap: break-word; display: inline; text-decoration: inherit; hyphens: auto;">investigations—reviewing</span> statements, police reports (as data points only), evidence, and loss circumstances—to determine <b>pro-rata liability</b>, not assumed fault.</p></li><li><p>Apply <b>state-specific comparative and contributory negligence laws</b>, joint & several liability principles, and regulatory requirements across <b>multiple jurisdictions</b>.</p></li><li><p>Establish and execute an action plan on each claim aligned with best practices, internal protocols, and legal standards.</p></li><li><p>Assess policy language and coverage, clearly communicating any coverage issues to insureds.</p></li><li><p>Set, monitor, and recommend <b>indemnity and expense reserves</b> at appropriate levels, escalating outside authority when needed.</p></li><li><p>Evaluate actual damages and <b>negotiate settlements within assigned authority</b>, defending liability positions with confidence and logic.</p></li><li><p>Prepare clear, concise claim documentation and reports for internal stakeholders, clients, and brokers.</p></li><li><p>Partner with policyholders, claimants, attorneys, coverage counsel, and vendors throughout the claim lifecycle.</p></li><li><p>Identify claim trends and coverage or policy concerns and communicate insights to management and underwriting.</p></li><li><p>Stay current on evolving court decisions, statutes, and liability practices through ongoing training and education.</p></li></ul><div></div><p><b>What Sets You Up for Success in This Role</b></p><p>We are looking for adjusters who bring <b>liability reasoning</b>, not just property knowledge.</p><ul><li><p>Proven experience making <b>independent liability decisions</b>, including shared and disputed liability scenarios.</p></li><li><p>Strong investigative mindset—able to analyze loss dynamics, assumption of risk, and proportionate fault.</p></li><li><p>Confident, professional <b>negotiation skills</b>, especially when damages or liability are contested.</p></li><li><p>Ability to work autonomously while exercising sound judgment and accountability.</p></li></ul><div></div><p><b>Ideal Background</b></p><ul><li><p><b>Auto Liability or Bodily Injury claims experience</b> (including non-attorney and <span style="overflow-wrap: break-word; display: inline; text-decoration: inherit; hyphens: auto;">attorney-represented)</span> with demonstrated progression in claim complexity<br><i>This experience translates exceptionally well to property and homeowner liability.</i></p></li><li><p>Experience handling <b>multi-state claims</b>, independently researching and applying varying laws.</p></li><li><p>Comfort negotiating with attorneys, contractors, and other carriers.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><i>Note:</i> This role is <b>not</b> aligned with CAT-only adjusting or field <span style="overflow-wrap: break-word; display: inline; text-decoration: inherit; hyphens: auto;">inspection/estimate-only</span> backgrounds where liability decision-making and settlement authority were not part of the role.</p><div></div><p><b>Minimum Qualifications</b></p><ul><li><p>Active <b>Adjuster’s License</b> in all applicable states (or ability to obtain/maintain as required)</p></li><li><p>Bachelor’s degree plus <b>3+ years of liability claims experience</b></p></li><li><p>Expert knowledge of <b>comparative and contributory negligence</b>, <b>joint & several liability</b>, and pro-rata fault</p></li><li><p>Excellent verbal and written communication skills</p></li><li><p>Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities</p></li><li><p>Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple claims in a fast-paced environment</p></li><li><p>Self-starter comfortable working independently and making defensible decisions</p></li></ul><div></div><p><b>Why This Role?</b></p><p>This is a role for adjusters who want to <b>use their liability expertise</b>, not just follow checklists.
